Program overview

The Feminist and Gender Studies program is an interdisciplinary field that examines social, cultural, economic, and political power through the lens of gender. This program emphasizes anti-racism, feminist theory, queer and trans studies, and social justice, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of how gender intersects with various societal issues. Previously known as Women's and Gender Studies, this program encourages student engagement with social justice topics and fosters essential communication and writing skills.

Program structure

The Bachelor of Arts in Feminist and Gender Studies offers students the opportunity to pursue either a major or honours degree, as well as a minor in any degree program. The program is structured as follows:

  • Program Length: Typically spans three to four years depending on the chosen path.
  • Available as a BA major (60 credits)
  • Available as a BA honours (72 credits)
  • Minor available (24 credits)

Students will engage in core courses that introduce the principles of Feminist and Gender Studies, followed by advanced studies focusing on gender, identity, and culture. The curriculum allows for a broad selection of electives from other disciplines, ensuring a well-rounded educational experience.
