Guaranteed Admission Pathway (GAP) - Bachelor Of Commerce

Academic Requirements

To gain admission to the Guaranteed Admission Pathway (GAP) for the Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of Guelph, students must meet the following criteria:

• Successful completion of four degree-level courses (2.00 credits) with a cumulative average of 70% or above in, at most, six course (3.00 credit) attempts.
• The four courses (2.00 credits) used in the calculation of the cumulative average must include:
  • At least 1.00 credits from the arts and social sciences.
  • A maximum of 1.00 credits from mathematics and statistics combined.
• Applicants must satisfy the following English and mathematics requirements:
  • Language Requirements: A grade of 75% or higher in English 12U is required, or the successful completion of one course (0.50 credits) from:
    • ENGL*1030
    • ENGL*1200
    • GEOG*1220
    • SOC*1100
    • WMST*1000
  • Mathematics Requirement: A grade of 75% or higher in the 12U mathematics course(s) is required for your intended major, or the successful completion of MATH*1030. If you are interested in the HTM or GEM major and have not completed a 4U math course in high school, you will need to complete MATH*1030 to meet the math requirement. If you are interested in any of the other commerce majors and haven’t completed any 4U math courses, then you will need to complete MATH*1030 and another math or statistics course (e.g., STAT*2040) to meet the math admission requirement to these majors.

It is important to note that transcripts may be required to be evaluated by WES in some cases.

While you are in the pathway, the Open Learning program Counsellor will send you an application to undergraduate studies where you can note which major you want to take. There will be a $50 transfer fee. Once the fee has been paid and the application completed, it will be forwarded to the undergraduate office. Upon completion of the four courses with a 70% average, the undergraduate office will reach out to you directly with next steps on how to transfer into full-time studies.

Language Requirements

The University of Guelph requires proof of English proficiency for applicants whose primary language is not English and who have had less than four years of full-time secondary or post-secondary study in an English-language school system.

The following English proficiency tests are accepted:

• Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (ELCP) - Successful completion of the University of Guelph’s Open Learning Advanced Level of the English Language Certificate Program (ELCP) (levels 9 and 10).
• Cambridge English: C1 Advanced and C2 Proficiency - Minimum overall score of 176 with no band less than 169.
• Canadian Academic English (CAEL) - Minimum overall band score of 70 for both paper and computer-based tests.
• Duolingo English Test - Minimum overall score of 110; individual subscores may be considered.
• International English Language Testing Systems (IELTS - Academic) - Minimum overall score of 6.5 with no band less than 6 for both paper and computer-based tests.
• Pearson Test of English (PTE) - Minimum overall score of 60 with no score less than 60 in the individual components.
• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - Minimum total score of 89 with no individual scaled score less than 21 for both internet-based and home-edition tests.
