Program Overview

The Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Refrigeration Technician certificate program at NAIT offers students a comprehensive introduction to the HVAC/R industry. This program equips students with the necessary skills to commission, design, install, maintain, and troubleshoot HVACR systems. The curriculum is designed to provide a solid understanding of the operating principles of industry-specific equipment, systems, and procedures, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for entry-level positions in this diverse job market.

Program Structure

The Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Refrigeration Technician program is structured to provide a balanced mix of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The program is designed to be completed in 1 year (Full-time) and includes:

  • 50% theory classes
  • 50% practical classes (computer lab/shop)

Students will engage in hands-on training using hand tools, power tools, and computer programs, which are essential for working in the HVACR field. The program also offers opportunities for work-integrated learning, allowing students to gain valuable experience in real-world settings. Graduates will receive recognition for periods 1 and 2 of technical training towards the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic (RACM) apprenticeship program, facilitating their transition into the workforce.
