Program Overview

Douglas College offers a comprehensive Computing Science Diploma designed for students eager to enter the expanding IT industry or pursue a career in game development. This two-year program provides foundational knowledge in computer programming and industry-standard programming languages. Students can exit after the first year with either a Computing Science Certificate or an Academic Foundations Certificate, depending on their elective choices. The program features two distinct streams: the Game Development stream, focusing on creating video games, and the General Information Technology stream, which prepares students for various IT roles.

Program Structure

The Computing Science Diploma spans a total of four semesters. Students can choose between two streams:

  • Game Development Stream: Focuses on coding for video games and developing interactive experiences.
  • General Stream: Covers software development, programming, and information analysis.

Additionally, students have the option to participate in a Co-operative Education Program, which allows them to gain paid, full-time work experience while studying. This program is designed to ensure that students not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply them in real-world settings, enhancing their employability upon graduation.

All first-year credits are transferable to major B.C. research universities, including SFU, UVic, and UBC, ensuring that students have pathways for further education.
