Program Overview

Welcome to the Mining Engineering Technology program at Cambrian College! This unique program is based in Sudbury, one of the world's leading nickel mining capitals. It offers a nationally accredited three-year advanced diploma that prepares students for a successful career in mining operations globally. Guided by experienced faculty, students will gain a solid foundation and hands-on experience essential for becoming integral members of underground or open-pit mine engineering teams. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics, including surveying, geological and geotechnical fieldwork, project management, and mine safety. This program is the only one of its kind in Ontario, ensuring that graduates are well-equipped to meet industry demands.

Program Structure

The Mining Engineering Technology program is structured to provide a comprehensive education over 6 semesters, spanning 3 years. Here are some key features of the program structure:

  • Common first and second year with Cambrian’s Mining Engineering Technician program.
  • Advanced courses in the third year focusing on project management and technical reports.
  • Completion of a 14-week co-op placement in the final semester, providing real-world experience.
  • Field trips to mine sites and/or mining suppliers when available.
  • Accredited by Technology Accreditation Canada (TAC) and recognized by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

 

This program is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the mining industry, ensuring they are ready for various challenges and opportunities upon graduation.
